Captain
I am honoured to represent the Society Of Leeds Golf Captains 2025.
I have been a golf fan since school days in Northern Ireland but having chosen a career in Medicine my appearances were few and far between.
I joined Scarcroft Golf Club in 1998 as a five day member and still found it difficult to play. I was fortunate to be elected Captain in 2014 having experienced my wife being Lady Captain in 2012. I sat on the committee for six years, multitasking, before becoming Chairman of the Club in 2018, a role I gave up in 2024, having steered us through the Covid nightmare.
I spent 22 years as a Consultant Surgeon at St James’s University Hospital.
I was fortunate to travel the world in my career on the back of my research, before the golf course beckoned, retiring in 2010. I do not miss it!

Captain for 2024 Mr. John Knott of the Garforth G.C.
John has been a Garforth member for almost 8 years, having previously been a member of Temple Newsam Golf Club for more than 40 years, where he was Club Captain in 2001.
He is a former Chairman and Director of both clubs, only relinquishing the Chair at Garforth to become Captain of Captains. John has been a member of the Leeds & District Union of Golf Clubs Executive for the last 11 years.
He is a retired electrician, who worked in the Air Conditioning industry for the last 30 years of his working life.
